STEM Alignment

Botball® can be used both in and out of the classroom to address the Next Generation Science and Common Core standards. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is used to identify individual subjects, a stand alone course, a sequence of courses, activities involving any of the four areas, a STEM-related course, or an interconnected or integrated program of study.


Botball® provides equipment, software, curriculum and professional development that enables teachers to teach their students to write computer code coupled with real-life applications of the engineering design process. The curriculum is aligned to Common Core Math and Next Generation Science standards and vertically aligned with concepts and skills in middle and high school.


Science is the study of the natural world, including the laws of nature associated with physics, chemistry, and biology and the treatment or application of facts, principles, concepts, or conventions associated with these disciplines.


Technology comprises the entire system of people and organizations, knowledge, processes, and devices that go into creating and operating technological artifacts, as well as the artifacts themselves.


Engineering is a body of knowledge about the design and creation of products and a process for solving problems. Engineering utilizes concepts in science and mathematics and technological tools.


Mathematics is the study of patterns and relationships among quantities, numbers, and shapes. Mathematics includes theoretical mathematics and applied mathematics.

Students Will Learn Critical Thinking

Botball® is an open-ended inquiry-based program. The students will find solutions, strategies, and designs from a nearly infinite number of possibilities.

Students Will Learn Decision Making
Botball® teams have a tight time frame to make strategy, design, and production decisions. The tournaments require on demand decision making.

Students Will Learn Collaboration
Each Botball® team competes with two robots on the same board simultaneously. Teamwork and collaboration are required to successfully complete all of the tasks.

Students Will Learn Analytical Skills

Botball® robot construction and programming is rigorous, requiring acute analytical skills when diagnosing problems and implementing solutions.

Students Will Learn Computational Thinking

Botball® students use algorithmic thinking to identify, test, and implement possible solutions for their autonomous robots.

Students Will Learn Problem Solving

Botball® allows students to apply the content knowledge from standard classes to create meaningful real-life solutions.

Students Will Learn Adaptive Learning / Flexibility
Botball® tournaments are dynamic and interactive. Students must problem solve, change mechanical systems, write software, and create strategies on the fly.

Students Will Learn Creativity / Innovation
Every Botball® team must use the same construction materials and controllers, but no two robots, solutions, or strategies are alike!

Students Will Learn Communication

A successful Botball® team must have good communication, including interpersonal communication skills, excellent technical writing skills and presentation skills.
