KIPR Mission

KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) was incorporated as a 501(c) 3 organization in 1994 to make the long-term educational benefits of robotics accessible to students. Our name is the well-known acronym (Keep It Simple, Students) and students tell us that this motto has been quite useful in designing their robots. KIPR’s Mission is to:

  • Improve the public’s understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math;
  • Develop the skills, character, and aspirations of students; and
  • Contribute to the enrichment of our school systems, communities, and the nation.

KIPR History:

    The KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit STEM education organization, incorporated in 1994 and headquartered in Norman, Oklahoma. We are a national organization with a small cheerful staff, great volunteers, and generous sponsors. KIPR was co-founded in 1994 with the vision to create a center for using autonomous (no remote control) robotics-based technology to provide STEM education programs that would include training educators and mentors while engaging students in collaborative, rigorous, goal-directed STEM activities that highlight academic and career pathways within STEM disciplines.

    Central to this vision was the philosophy that projects should be student driven with the adults acting as facilitators. To this end, programs include a three-pronged approach, educational standards aligned curriculum, reusable autonomous robotics technology and on-going professional development. This on-going professional development and networking support for the teachers has been very effective; it is teachers who have a daily impact and influence on their students. Teachers are often the role models for students considering particular fields of study, and can help students make critical decisions about their future course of study.

Our mission is accomplished through various programs:
The Botball Educational Robotics Program
The Global Conference on Educational Robotics
The Junior Botball and Botball Challenge Program
The Aerial Botball Challenge

    In addition to these programs, KIPR actively pursues research and product development in hardware, software and curriculum for autonomous robotic technologies, and STEM education. The programs are being implemented in 32 states and five international regions impacting an estimated 25,000 students per year. KISS Institute for Practical Robotics (KIPR) is the leading provider of programming based educational robotics programs. We create most of our products in-house, and we are located in Norman, Oklahoma.
