Robots In Residence

Our Robots in Residence Program puts robotics instructors and appropriate robotics equipment into schools for a designated period of time. The instructor customizes a course of hands-on activities and assemblies based on school or regional request and can work with any grade or combination of grades.

Past Robots In Residence Classes

  • Robot Education [8 hours] This class covers the basics of robotics. Students learn the primary robot characteristics; the major robotic systems; the relationship between robotic and biological systems; simple machines and mechanics; sensors; and robot control and programming. This class is recommended for students in grades 2 and above
  • Robot Building I [8 hours] In this class the students build an end-effector to attach to a mobile robot. The students learn the basics of mechanical design; sensor selection; and algorithm design. They also learn how to design to a specific task (e.g., snuffing a candle or collecting cans). The robot education class is a recommended prerequisite. This class is recommended for students in grades 4 and above.
  • Robot building II [16 hours] In this class the students build a full mobile robot, including the end-effector, to attach to a mobile robot. Students learn the basics of mechanical design, sensor selection, and algorithm design. Students are taught the concepts of prototyping and system integration. The robot education class is a recommended prerequisite. This class is recommended for students in grades five and above.

Each class is tailored to the particular grade level of the students, and all class curricula were developed using the National Science Education Standards for the age group being taught. Before coming to your school, we will discuss the math and science units currently being taught to your students and tailor our exercises to reinforce your program of studies.
